Are you facing challenges with your horse?
Would you like a stronger connection with your horse?

Do you have a horse that is balky, pushy, spooky, unfocused, or unable to perform at his highest standard?

Do you have a horse that suffers from PTSD from a former situation and you’re not sure how to handle it?

Do you have a phobic horse? i.e. claustrophobic, won’t load on trailer, scared of flags, whips, buggies, doesn’t want to be touched, won’t allow hooves to be handled, head shy, ear shy, what-have-you?

I’ve worked and studied with some of the best horsemanship masters and lived with horses of all ages, breeds, and disciplines for over 50 years. I can help you overcome these obstacles with your horse in a gentle, ‘natural’ and positive manner-one that is strongly effective and understood by the horse AND … you.

Serving the Lee, Charlotte and Collier, Glades and Hendry counties.

I will help you using PENZANCE horses on my farm in Cape Coral or will travel to your farm to teach you how to form an incredible bond and connection with your own horse and how to overcome the challenges you’re presently facing.

13 Things Good Horsemen Don’t Do …

Image1-3
Gwen and J.C.’s Bubba 1998

Inspired from http://www.businessinsider.com/mentally-strong-people-2015-11 … “13 things mentally strong people don’t do” …

13 THINGS MENTALLY STRONG HORSEMEN DON’T DO. …

1. They don’t waste time feeling sorry for themselves. …

A good horseman is so focused on the horse there’s no room to feel sorry for ones self.

2. They don’t give away their power. …

A good horseman shares the ‘power’ with the horse.

3. They don’t shy away from change. …

A good horseman is afraid to change things up when something isn’t ‘working’.

4. They don’t focus on things they can’t control. …

Good horsemanship just simply isn’t anything about control.

5. They don’t worry about pleasing everyone. …

A good horseman worries only about pleasing his horse.

6. They don’t fear taking calculated risks. …

A good horseman encourages his horse to take what may seem like a ‘risk’ and helps him through the scary spots.

7. They don’t dwell on the past. …

Horses don’t … so why should the horseman? A good horseman stays in the moment .. with the horse.

8. They don’t make the same mistakes over and over. …

Nope … good horsemen learn from their own mistakes.

9. They don’t resent other people’s success. …

Neither do good Leaders and Friends. Both of which a good horseman strives to be with his horse.

10. They don’t give up after the first failure.

No such thing as a failure except the failure to learn from something that goes awry.

11. They don’t fear alone time.

Alone time is sometimes the very best time with the horse!

12. They don’t feel the world owes them anything. …

and a good horseman doesn’t feel his horse owes him anything either. In fact, the good horseman feel he owes his horse his very best!

13. They don’t expect immediate results. …

Relationships take time; Partnerships even longer time to nourish, cherish, develop … A good horseman ALWAYS takes the time the HORSE needs.

Principles of Natural Healing

The Principles of Natural Healing
as noted in “The Nature of Animal Healing” by Dr. Marty Goldstein

  1. Disease is an absence of health, and vice versa: health is an absence of disease. But health was here first!
  2. Disease is a process used by nature in an attempt to get itself healthy.
  3. Degenerative disease is not caused by nature. It is an aberration of nature (caused mostly by – in my opinion – man).
  4. Cancer is nothing more than a severe aberration of nature manifested in and by the body.
  5. Sickness is an excuse to get healthy.
  6. Don’t mess with Mother Nature!
  7. the mechanism for healing is already built into all individuals. Healing therefore occurs most rapidly when we realign with the natural laws governing that mechanism.
  8. Pure health is spontaneous healing.
  9. The immune system functions maximally and at peak efficiency in its totally unaltered state.
  10. The degree to which we have to work toward health is directly proportional to the amount we have messed it up in the first place. Health is simple; disease brings in complexity.
  11. Generally, it’s not what you put into the body that restores health; rather it’s what you let the body eliminate.
  12. Physically, health isn’t everything, but without it, everything is nothing.
  13. Food, including the necessary vitamins and minerals, was intended not to improve, but rather to maintain, the body. Therefore the need for treatment reflects the degree to which the individual has strayed from nature.
  14. The body does not have to degenerate or age nearly as quickly as we presume. Each body cell has the ability to replicate itself 100 percent, and the process should continue for longer than we currently expect if we minimize deleterious effects on the cellular structure. It is only what we choose to do to the body, both consciously and unconsciously, that leads to the premature aging we experience.
  15. Genetic predispositions to disease are only predispositions, and do not have to manifest if health is maintained. Once a genetically predisposed disease condition appears clinically, it can be reversed, although with more difficulty, as a course toward health is taken.
  16. Nature and the being itself are the true healers. The practitioner, in the guise of being the healer, is truly the guide. Or: Physician, heal thyself!
  17. Nature uses disease to establish balance. Only when our bodies are out of balance are we subject to disease, and if we can just endure the natural healing process, the disease will soon abate, having restored us to the balance that is optimal health!

About Dr. Goldstein: Dr. Goldstein is a graduate of the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine and runs a renowned clinic in South Salem, NY.

In his practice, Dr. Goldstein has had extraordinary success treating cancer and leukemia. He believes that the best way to cure an animal who is ill is to help the animal cure itself. We are not the true healers of our pets –THEY are. By treating the root of the problem instead of its symptoms, holistic medicine enables our pets to regain and maintain their own health.

Spring Treasures

cleaversThis time of the year is such a wonderful and mystical time — all sorts of new babies and sprouts begin to appear – from birds to butterflies to wild herbs and plants just awakening from their deep winter sleep.

Here on PENZANCE I am always on the prowl for weeds and such that benefit the horses as well as the humans.  One particularly beneficial herb is CLEAVERS — a great spring tonic that has the properties to cleanse and detox the entire body from head to hoof — erm — toe.

Herbalists have long regarded cleavers as a valuable lymphatic tonic and diuretic.  Cleavers is widely used by Western herbalists to treat edema and other forms of swelling due to its stimulating effect on the lymphatic system, which is responsible for clearing extracellular waste from the body;  passing toxins to the liver and the kidneys for cleansing.

Conditions such as psoriasis and arthritis are soothed by this purifying of the blood.

Cleavers is also known for its beneficial properties in aiding the treatment of urinary infections and is particularly helpful for a long-term and safe aid of feline lower urinary tract disease.  It helps clean out gravel and urinary stones.  The herb may also be useful for chronic low-grade kidney inflammation.

In studies cleavers extract lowered blood pressurewithout slowing heart rate or having any health-threatening side effects.

Cleavers is considered a vulnerary herb. This means that the herb helps to heal wounds – specifically tumors and ulcers in the mouth and throat. Cleavers can also be used as a wash or poultice for skin irritations, sunburn and cancerous growths, according to Tierra in “Planetary Herbology,” although no direct evidence for its efficacy in skin irritation or cancer is available at this time.

Cleavers may be an effective addition to healing salves and ointments due to its cooling, soothing and wound-healing properties.

I love to gather up Cleavers this time of year to add to the freshly picked Dandelions and adding them as a base to my horses’ ‘salads’.

They love ’em, too! (Oh, and PS — I add ’em to Hubby’s and my salads, too! Mmmmmmm. )

Stay tuned for I’ll be adding more wild ‘weeds’ as the weeks go on …

It’s Been a Tough Winter

It’s been a tough winter – everywhere and for everyone. Even for the horses. Their bodies use up alot of energy to stay warm and keep their systems going. Like us, they can get spasms during chills and shivering that will get ‘stuck’ and need help releasing. They slip and twist on the ice – that, too, can set up spasms in the body. If these issues are not identified and released they can precipitate behavioral challenges for the handler and rider come spring conditioning. Challenges that cannot be ‘disciplined’ or ‘punished’ away but must be viewed from a whole horse perspective.

I offer FULL consults – both distance and on farm. From head to hoof, your entire horse is evaluated and ‘treated’ using my WHOLE HEALTH for the WHOLE HORSE protocol.

Email to me if you’d like more info: caballus@charter.net or shoot me a PM here on Facebook. I work with all ages, all breeds, all disciplines.

Your horse deserves a break today!
